Memberships
Joining the library is easy, and membership is free for people who live in or pay rates in the Matamata-Piako District.
Your membership gives you access to all three Matamata-Piako libraries (Matamata, Morrinsville and Te Aroha), as well as our online collections and digital resources.
If you do not live in the district, you can join as a subscription member for $64.00 per year.

Guest passes are available for non-residents who wish to use our public computers.
If you are experiencing financial hardship or have other special circumstances, the District Library Manager may be able to approve an exemption to the subscription fee. To apply, email
How to Join
To join the library, you need to:
- Complete a membership form.
- Provide photo identification, such as a passport or New Zealand driver licence.
- Accept the library's Membership Terms and Conditions.
If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must accept responsibility for your library account. Exceptions can be made for those aged 16 and over in special circumstances.
Digital Memberships
Digital Memberships are available to Matamata-Piako residents who want access to:
- Public computers
- eBooks and eAudiobooks
- Online resources and digital collections
Digital Memberships do not include borrowing physical items. If you would like to borrow books, magazines, DVDs or other physical items in the future, we can upgrade your membership.
Things to Know About Your Membership
When you join Matamata-Piako Libraries, you'll receive a library card that can be used at our Matamata, Morrinsville and Te Aroha libraries, as well as for accessing online resources.
Library members can borrow items, place holds, use digital resources, access public computers, and take part in many library programmes and services.

You are responsible for anything borrowed on your library card. If you are under 18 years of age, your parent or guardian is responsible for items borrowed on your account.
Please let us know if your contact details change or if your library card is lost or stolen.
We collect personal information to manage your membership, provide library services, contact you about your account, and meet our legal responsibilities. Your information is handled in accordance with Matamata-Piako District Council's Privacy Policy.
We want our libraries to be safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces. Everyone using the library is expected to treat staff, volunteers and other customers with respect and follow reasonable directions from library staff.
Children under 14 should be supervised by a parent, guardian or caregiver while visiting the library.
