Poetry Recording Competition – Terms and Conditions 

1. Entrants are invited to showcase their poetry skills by submitting a poem they have written themselves. 

2. Each entry must include: 

   • A recorded performance of the poem, and 

   • A written version of the same poem. 

3. The recording must be of good quality, clearly audible, and able to be played online. 

4. Recordings can be up to 10mb in size. 

5. All entries must be the original work of the individual submitting them and must not have been published elsewhere.  Entrants must confirm in writing that both the written poem and the recorded performance are entirely their own work and have not been generated using artificial intelligence or other automated tools. 

6. Entries created wholly or partly using artificial intelligence will not be accepted. 
   If Matamata-Piako Libraries has reason to believe an entry is not the entrant’s own work, was generated using artificial intelligence, or otherwise breaches these Terms and Conditions, the entry may not be considered and may be disqualified. 

7. Poetry must not be obscene, defamatory, distasteful, or offensive. 

8. Entries must be submitted through the form on our website. 

9. Submission of an entry will be taken as acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. 

10. All entries must be received by the advertised closing time and date of 31 August. Late entries will not be accepted. 

11. By submitting an entry, entrants agree to allow Matamata-Piako District Council (Council) to use the recording and written poem for the purposes of promoting the competition or for any other use the Council chooses (in digital or print form), at no cost to the Council. 
    If entries are shared on social media, they will be subject to the terms and conditions of the relevant platform. 

12. Winning entries will be selected by Matamata-Piako Libraries and their chosen judges. 
    Council staff and their families are not eligible to win prizes. All decisions are final. 
    Matamata-Piako Libraries reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not comply with these contest rules. 

13. The prize must be collected by the winner and is non-transferable. 

14. Entrants must have obtained permission from all individuals featured in the recording. 

15. The Council’s privacy policy applies to all information supplied by entrants as part of the competition. Entrants authorise the Council to contact them regarding the competition. Personal information will not be shared with third parties without the entrant’s prior consent.
